Children's Safe Harbor
Mission Statement
The mission of the Children’s Safe Harbor, Inc. is to provide children safe and conflict free access to both parents in a safe and neutral environment. It is a goal of the center to help establish, maintain and enhance familial relationships, which focus on the needs of the child, for those who may be experiencing difficulties due to divorce, separation or family violence.
Program Description
Children's Safe Harbor, a three-year project in the making by the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit Court Family Violence Coordinating Council (FVCC), is a parent/child neutral exchange center, which was incorporated and designated a non-profit agency in 2007 and began receiving clients in January 2009. The program allows for residential and non-residential parents to conduct visitation without coming in direct contact with each other. Parents enter and exit the exchange center through separate entrances, park in separate parking lots and arrive/depart at staggered times. Children are escorted from the dropping-off parent to the picking-up parent.
Access to Children’s Safe Harbor is gained through court referral of an existing civil court case.
